Description

One line

ReelQuest turns Ontario's 200-page fishing regulations into a clear answer for your exact spot.

Short

Ontario publishes its fishing regulations as a 200-page annual summary, split across 20 fishery management zones and thousands of named waterbodies, each with its own seasons, limits and closures. ReelQuest resolves that document to a GPS coordinate. Use your location or drop a pin, and the app answers for that exact water: what is open, what is catch and release, what is closed. Log a catch with a photo, identify the species from that photo, and fill in a personal FishDex of the Ontario species and lakes you have caught.

The story

When we tried to take up fishing, Ontario handed us 200 pages of rules before we could even buy a rod: 20 zones, thousands of lakes, and language written for people who already knew it. We could not tell which season was open where, what counted as a sanctuary, or which lake had its own exception buried three chapters away. We almost quit before we started.

So we spent four years at our kitchen table, on nights and weekends, turning that book into one answer for the water under your feet. We carried it on our own fishing trips, app in one hand and paper scratch pads in the other, checking every answer it gave against the book before we trusted it. Nothing shipped until the paper agreed.

The paper does not scale, so now a machine does that job every night. An automated audit re-reads Ontario's published regulations and its public Fish ON-Line service, compares both against what the app would answer, and flags every disagreement. It is the same check we ran by hand on a dock, run against the whole province.

We now want all new and seasoned anglers alike to start the day on the water, not in the book.

Use the transparent mark if you are placing it on your own colour; it reads on light and dark. The rest have their backgrounds baked in, so pick the one that matches your layout. The wordmark exists only in the lockup, which has no transparent version yet. ReelQuest is one word, capital R and capital Q, and please do not recolour the mark.
